Jalapeño Hot Sauce
Jalapeño is the pepper most people have tasted most, which makes a jalapeño sauce the easiest one to place: green, bright, slightly vegetal, closer to a fresh pepper with an edge than to anything smoky or tropical.
Took The Bet is ours, made with aged jalapeño. The aging rounds off the raw sharpness without losing the brightness, and what is left is a sauce that cuts through rich food instead of sitting on top of it. We rate it Medium, around 15,000 Scoville units — a clear step up from our garlic bottle and a clear step below the habanero.
It is the honest recommendation for anyone unsure where they stand. From the middle of the scale you learn quickly whether you want to climb or come back down, and either direction is one bottle away.
It is also the only sauce in our range with an added colour: a touch of FD&C Blue #1 to hold the green. It is printed on the label, so we say it here too. Gluten free, 5 FL OZ (148 ML).
Good on tacos, eggs, rice bowls, fish and carnitas — anything with fat that needs sharpening.
